Kabel Deutschland adopts eventIS SI data management solution
[May 29, 2008]
At the ANGA Cable show, eventIS announced that it has completed an implementation of its proven CASIS and STAGIS products for the German cable operator Kabel Deutschland (KDG). The successful and cost-effective installation brings improved performance to the operator’s services, as well as offering greater scalability and usability.

The system was tailored to meet KDG’s specific requirements, including a number of custom features to improve usability within the KDG environment. Together, the STAGIS schedule manager and CASIS PSI/SI and access criteria management solutions look after several key functions. They handle SI data generation for all services across the entire KDG cable network in Germany, aggregate EPG data from EPG service providers and live streams, and monitor both system components and EPG data. The system supports both IP and ASI outputs in parallel and is a fully redundant solution that ensures continuous service delivery.

From eventIS, Erwin van Dommelen, CEO commented, “KDG is one of the largest cable operators in Europe with complex SI requirements, and a role model for other operators. It was a pleasure to cooperate on this implementation and we look forward to continuing to support KDG with other projects in the future.”

CASIS
Centred on DVB-SI and MPEG-PSI table generation, the high-performance CASIS (Conditional Access and Service Information Scheduler) makes it easy for operators to implement DTV and maintain scheduled services with rich and accurate data. The highly flexible, modular and efficient nature of the CASIS solution is suited from the smallest operator to the largest with the most complex of requirements. As well its suitability for Free-to-Air services, it facilitates Pay-per-View business models, without heavy investments in traffic or automation systems, and is ideal for subscription models involving frequent changes to channel characteristics.

STAGIS
A high performance and modular schedule processor, management and distribution system that aggregates and publishes EPG data and performs consistency checks in a variety of formats. Data is collected from schedule and trigger information sources from all the different providers, in a variety of formats. The solution supports standard server hardware, with common IT backup and restore procedures, reducing complexity and cost.
